Why Weight Matters

Technique 1: Reduce Board Caliper

Moving from 350 gsm to 300 gsm SBS board on a folding carton reduces weight by ~14% with minimal structural impact for lightweight products (under 300g). Stacking strength should be verified by compression test if the carton must support weight on a retail shelf or in a shipper.

Technique 2: Switch Flute Profile

E-flute (1.5 mm) is 30–40% lighter than B-flute (3 mm) for comparable stacking strength at lower weights. If your shipper uses B-flute and the product is under 3 kg, switching to E-flute saves weight and may allow a smaller outer dimension.

Technique 3: Eliminate Unnecessary Layers
