Jewelry packaging serves two practical purposes — protecting valuable items during transport and storage, and presenting them in a way that enhances the perceived value of the gift or purchase. The right jewelry packaging choice depends on the jewelry type, price point, retail or DTC channel, and whether the packaging will be kept by the customer as a storage solution.

Box Materials
Jewelry boxes typically use one of three construction approaches:
- Cardboard/paper box with fabric exterior: Greyboard box frame covered with leatherette, PU fabric, faux silk or linen; inner lining of velvet or satin. Most common for mid-market to premium jewelry brands. Washable and durable.
- Rigid paper box (fully printed outer): Greyboard wrapped in printed art paper; same construction as luxury cosmetic packaging; inner lined with velvet foam or flocked paper. Best for branded/custom artwork on the exterior.
- MDF wooden box: Real or engineered wood; engraved or printed lid; used for ultra-premium and bridal jewelry. Higher cost and weight; impressive for high-value gifts.
Inserts and Cushions
The insert holds the jewelry in place and prevents scratching. Common options:
- Velvet foam cushion: Foam block covered in velvet fabric; ring slots cut into the foam; most premium appearance for ring boxes
- Satin pillow: Soft fabric pillow; used for necklace display boxes; elegant but does not hold the item securely
- Flocked insert: Foam or card insert covered in electrostatic flocking (velvet finish); standard for mid-market jewelry
- Die-cut foam with satin covering: Custom shape for specific jewelry items; used for sets with irregular configurations
Outer Gift Bags and Ribbon
Jewelry gift sets often include an outer paper or non-woven bag and ribbon. Custom printed paper bags in 90–120gsm art paper (twisted handle or ribbon handle) are the standard outer carrier for jewelry boxes. Satin ribbon in matching brand colours ties around the box for gift-ready presentation. Custom printed satin ribbon in 15mm or 25mm width is available from MOQ 200 metres.
