The candle market is intensely premium-branded. A consumer choosing between a USD 15 mass-market candle and a USD 60 artisan candle is making a decision as much about the packaging experience as the fragrance. Candle brands competing at the premium end invest in packaging that communicates craft, quality and giftability — because candles are the number one gifted product in the home fragrance category.
Box Styles for Candle Packaging
The choice of box style depends on candle format (jar, pillar, votive, tin, taper) and price point:

Candle Label Specifications
Candle labels must survive heat from the flame and occasionally greasy or waxy surfaces. Material selection is critical:
- BOPP waterproof gloss or matte: Heat-resistant to ~80°C; survives normal candle jar temperature; best all-round choice for jar labels
- Clear BOPP: No-label look on clear glass; INCI and warning text appears to print directly on glass
- Kraft paper label with water-resistant coating: Artisan aesthetic; must specify coating or label will blister near heat
Candle labels in the US and EU must include: fragrance/ingredient disclosure (EU CLP Regulation for fragrances; US warning label for candles with wax type above 50°C flashpoint), burn time, safety warnings (keep away from children/pets, keep wick trimmed to 6mm), net weight.
Gift Sets and Multi-Candle Packaging
Gift sets of 2–4 candles require a rigid outer box with a custom insert (typically thermoformed PET, vacuum-formed paper pulp, or foam die-cut) to hold candles securely. The insert prevents movement and breakage during shipping while presenting each candle at the same height in the box lid. For brands shipping gift sets direct-to-consumer, the outer box must also function as a shipping box — this requires at minimum B-flute corrugated base or a double-wall rigid box construction.
Tissue Paper and Wrapping
Branded tissue paper in matching brand colours adds a gift-wrap element inside the box. Custom printed tissue paper is available from 500 sheets at BestPackFactory.
