Packaging Lead Times from China: Timeline from Artwork to Delivery

One of the most common frustrations in sourcing custom packaging from China is misaligned expectations around lead times. A buyer who expects product in 3 weeks after sending artwork will be disappointed. A buyer who understands the timeline and plans accordingly will never face a stock-out. This guide gives realistic, factory-verified timelines for every stage.

Stage 1: Quotation and Specification Confirmation

After you submit an RFQ with complete specifications, a factory quotation takes 24–48 hours for standard products and 3–5 working days for complex multi-component packaging. Once you approve the quotation and send a purchase order, the factory will send a dieline template within 24 hours. Your artwork team places artwork on the dieline and returns it for factory review. Allow 2–3 rounds of revision. Total time from PO to artwork approval: 3–10 working days depending on artwork complexity.

Stage 2: Pre-Production Sample

Physical samples are produced after artwork is approved and a sample fee is paid. Sample production times by product type:

Express international courier (DHL/FedEx) from Shenzhen to US/EU/AU takes 3–5 business days after dispatch.

Stage 3: Bulk Production
